They were certainly present in force at the meeting to discus how to deal with Filareta - which had Haven, Beowulf, Manticore, Grayson, and Torch represented. Andermani was not there by conscious decision, and there was still discussion of sending treecats to the Empire.
I think that they're officially still "neutrals" except towards Mesa with whom they have declared war, and have the mutual defense treaty between the major powers. They're treated sort of as a bridge between Maya and Erewhon to maintain the fiction that those groups aren't in direct opposition to the League powers that be.

There's one slight problem with this:

They are all "prisoners of war", in the custody of the SEM and you don't usually start putting defectors directly back into your own or allied militaries (after all they don't it once who's to say they wouldn't do it again).

Also; they wouldn't be emigrating. They would have to ask for alyssum, then request full citizenship.

(This after all the process that Yu and Caslet went through)

That's true, you've got the wording more correct. My thoughts were originally towards requesting asylum (or being offered a choice) from the SEM and then emigrating to those other systems, primarily Torch and Maya. In the case of Maya, they would be "paroled".

sorry, second problem if they were captured by the SLN at any point they could easily end up in jail (if feeling kind) or against a wall (if feeling vindictive).

Technically; if they entered Maya (whilst still part of the SL) and they weren't on parole (in which they probably wouldn't be allowed to server in the SLN (depending on the wording)), they would have to be taken into custody.

Good point, Garth.

IMHO, rather than taking them into service or granting asylum (and remember, folks, there are only 2-3M treecats in total; they can't be everywhere in numbers), I think the best might be to parole them and return them--not to the SLN--but to their home planets.

Those in the Protectorate systems, especially those in rebellion against the OFS and FF can lend a hand and those returned to Core worlds will demonstrate that (1) the Manties/GA are not the evil bastiches being protrayed by the Mandarins and (2) serve as a basis for making contact and doing negoitations.

After all, Prichard brought back the Grendelsbane prisoners and turned them over to Manticore with no strings attached, IIRC.

We shall see.

That's kinda the point of their serving in the Erewhon Torch Maya neck of the woods, harder to argue that they're GA systems. Hutch's idea has merit also.

The parole I was thinking of is similar to Henke's and has a long history in war: no service against the forces which paroled you. Given that the Maya Sector is a hidden ally and led by leaders that are way to smart to go against the GA space navies anyway, it seems like an interesting option.

I was just looking at Maya's position in terms of stellar astrography on the latest maps in Pearls Of Weber and that SWM produced; maybe Rozak et. al agree to act as the "paroling agent" on behalf of the SLN, and cherry pick who stays in SEM captivity, who they keep for their own "little" plans, and who gets paroled to home systems. I don't see any high ranking officers even being offered the opportunity by the way.

Except most of those returned to the Core Worlds will be low level spacers, who probably won't be in any position to be of use even if contacted later. And while the Marines released on Verge and protectorate worlds might well be of immense use to the rebellions, it is not clear how useful the navy crewman will be.

Two points:

500000 prisoners. A simple 1% is a brigade-size force (yes, I know, Navy). A tad short of a squadron of Nike-class BCs? Since there was talk BCs were getting outclassed, it might be a nice place to put people of... questionable background to start at.

Also, treecats were starting to be available for critical posts. Vetting the military might be one.

What I'm not sure is retrainment costs.

Take care.

Oh, also... If you parole them... can they serve in the Beowulf SDF? Of course, not for action against the SEM.

Just sayin'... Take care

I'm guessing that Beowulf would probably say "thanks but no thanks", as they're already fully staffed with superior-trained crew and officers and superior weaponry to the SLN. Besides, the Mandarins are in the process of turning Beowulf into the most traitorous bunch of bums since who knows when, so any SLN spacers joining would presumably be considered traitors as well.
