Just my 2 or 3 cents apart from the "real" main characters:

Well, as important as Berry is, I think the main target of Mesa would be Jeremy or W.E.B, as they're the political and military masterminds. Also Thandi might die, although in that Instance, Victor would "borrow" some SD(P)s and commit a slight Eridani Act violation, I think.

Also the Andies might be Targets. Given the Anti-Manty, Anti-Haven stance probably many of them still have, what would a "Manticoran/Havenite" Assasination of Ravenheim or Gustav lead to?
(Here begging for more Andy-Story, as a Prussia-Fanboy like me has a "little" knack for them)

Also, the prominent Beowulfians are always endangered, I think.

Rather Unlikely at the moment are Diamato and Lester, as they are the last Officers with a backstory, as far as I remember. (While asking this: Where are Honeker and Jourdain?)

I don't think we'll be seeing nanotech assassinations for a while, because the core of "the onion" is on the run to reach their hidey hole(s) -- presumably Darius, et. al. With Simoes revealing the existence of the tool, the streak drive, the spider drives, and Hemphill et. al working on counters from one end on Beowulf from the other, they'd be fools to put out examples of their tech to be discovered and or captured or leading back to the hiding place.

Obviously plot wise, that has to change, but I'd expect that the targets will be anyone getting too close to the truth that they can get to from the Sollie side. They've already got agents in place (i.e., someone got to Rajampet), and they still want the SEM and the Solarian League to weaken each other enough for the Alliance to rise from the ashes with relatively low investment in their own capital ships.

On the other hand, they could use for free energy. Just hook turbines up to their graves, and the spinning would power the planet for years.

Y'all not meaning to stir up an old thread but I just saw this one and had to stand up and applaud. That's FUNNY stuff there.

Might Klaus or Stacy be in line for Treecat assignment (or for Stacy, possible adoption) ?

-- Stewart

I think 'assigning' a guard cat to either of them would be very dangerous, politically speaking. Protecting monarchs, ministers and military commanders is in the interests of the Star Empire as a whole, but Klaus and Stacy are, ultimately, just private citizens. Why should they receive personal 'cats when the overwhelming majority of their fellow citizens don't?

I'm thinking that the treecat community would want to adopt and protect Stacy out of their love/affection for Honor. Shortest treecat conversation on record not involving claws....

<oh, she's one of Honor's? FindsTheTruth needs to be adopted>

As to who dies, next, someone posited the question as to "what happens if Queen Berry dies?"

It naturally depends on whether she and her new beau have any offspring, but prior to that, my reading from SoS (Shadow of Saganami) is that it's Helen Zilwicki, her sister by adoption, followed likely by Anton followed by Cathy M.

Meanwhile, Palane, Cachat, Zilwicki, and Jeremy X might wreak a little too much havoc of their own, so I don't think Berry is a solo target, so I don't see her dying unless it is by virtue of whatever ship or land mass she's standing on being attacked and destroyed.

Lars is presumably in the line of succession somewhere (if biology matters, he's ahead of Helen, if not behind).
