Pick a pairing, any pairing. Ask why I support it. Ask why I don't.

I would suggest the following

Abagail Hearns / Carson Clinkscales -- maybe too obvious
Michelle Henke / Chiu-Lin Andermann -- a good dynastic match
Michelle Henke / Lester Tourville -- good story line and matching humor
Shannon Foracker / Scotty Tremaine -- Scotty needs to get to RAdm to be in the same social range for the re-meeting to gel

Okay, guys.
Why aren't we talking Scotty Tremaine and Abigail? They haven't had an onscreen meeting that I know of (or off for that matter) and they're both a couple of Honor's disciples, if a bit off in age. He'd be someone her father would approve of (he's a from a noble, if minor, family on Manticore) and he's not all that much older, even without the prolong issues (he was a J.G. when Abby was watching from below IIRC). Plus, he'd be very understanding of her career needs. Now that he's out with Mike's 10th fleet, there's a chance for a meeting when they're assigned to an intervention together as part of the light units - say Tristam is sent along with his division.
Any other supporters?

Okay! I know I've been MIA recently, but I intend to remedy that in the next day or so.

On my list to discuss:

1. Abigail Hearns/Scotty Tremaine
2. Gwen Archer/Helga Boltitz

Any others?

Any others?

It's a bit early in their lives but how about

1) Bernard Raul Mayhew & Faith Harrington
2) James Harrington and Honor Mayhew (despite the age difference, prolong makes this less of an issue)

On this edition of Power Cupid Question Hour:

Abigail Hearns and Scotty Tremaine!

Let's start with the obvious, which is that both are proteges of one Honor Harrington. As you can imagine, this would likely provide an excellent basis for the two to start comparing notes. Abigail would probably love getting to hear about OBS-era Honor, not to mention everything that came afterward since, until he became one of the major figures of the new LAC movement, he basically followed Honor wherever she went.

Aside from that, though, they're actually two fairly different characters. Scotty is a pilot; that's where he's most comfortable, and that's what he loves to do. Abigail, on the other hand, is a tactical specialist, and though I've no doubt she can pilot a shuttlecraft as well as anyone who graduated from Saganami Island, it's never been shown to be a particular interest of hers.

This isn't to say I think that means they won't work - after all, my favorite speculative pairing in the Honorverse pairs a military man with someone from the Foreign Office, so a little thing like preferring different aspects of the Navy is hardly going to be a dealbreaker.

But the truth is, until we actually see the two of them interact, it's very hard to judge just what their relationship would be like. I can speculate about Augustus and Estelle, or Abigail and Michael, because I've had a window into how they relate to each other. I don't have that window with Abi and Scotty, so I can't say 'yes' or 'no' as to whether or not I support this pairing wholeheartedly.

But it would still be really, really cool to see two of Honor's proteges hook up.

Rose, I have a thought I'd like you to address. Lady Caitrin has not been romantically linked. What say she and Benjamin has been corresponding ever since ...
In June 1922 PD he became the first Protector to make a interstellar state visit, when he went to the Manticore System to sign the peace treaty ending the Second Havenite-Manticoran War. During the visit he attended the wedding of Crown Prince Roger Winton and Rivka Rosenfeld. (HH13)

How interesting would it be if Benjamin fell in love with a Manticoran, and Lady Caitrin became one of his wives?

Besides certain Keys jumping off some version of the Tallahatchie Bridge, what would it change as far as power bases, Caitrin's or Benjamin's? If any.

While at the Academy, I wonder if Honor ever dated Michelle's brother Calvin. He was still alive then.

Any pairing? Got a new one...

Stacy Hauptman and Jeremy X, including inheritance rights. I'd have to think paring that would REALLY give the Detweilers a super wedgie size case of cajone shrinkage.

...at which point I hand off to your superior romantic sensibilities... combined with, uh, strategic implications for the TorchVerse.

I think the argument there is that Scotty's off with 10th fleet, and Shannon's been offstage for a few books now.

I got that one figured, RoseAndHeather. Scotty gets recalled briefly as one of the RMN's most versatile non-admiral shooters, and assigned to the tech mission to Bolthole. With Horace the Magnificent in tow to help patch/upgrade all of the RHN's old systems. After all, he *cough* does know his way around the "Peep" systems rather well. Just give him a Princess Ruth style minicomp, and git outta da way...

On second thought, better send Iris along as well to keep Horace from testing out his sparring abilities with the RHN Marines.

Whoa. I have to say that I think the vast differences in background will make that one impossible. And I don't think Jeremy is going to be able to settle down that way til genetic slavery is extirpated from the galaxy.

I wouldn't say that the two of them wouldn't get along like a house on fire, and that eager professional collaboration wouldn't make Detweilers cringe. Because they would and it would, after all.

Otherwise - Much as we like shipping Abigail Hearns, she's working in a milieu totally unlike the one she'll be going home to eventually, among people who, for the most part, won't be back there. She's also focused and self-controlled, so I don't think she's going to be getting wrapped up in anything that would be a problem for Miss Owens.

The Pritchart-Giscard romance was an open secret by the end. Eloise Pritchart and Tom Theisman are among the most beloved people in the entire Republic of Haven. I don't think anyone would bat an eye if they got involved in an open, public, above-board fashion, and I think it would be a welcome weapon in the hands of her opposition if they had secret hanky-panky. (Goodness knows that pack of wolves would like to get something on her.) So they can darn well get involved and not have to hide it. Tens of millions of Havenite shippers will cheer with us.
