Here on Basilisk Station, I reread the maximum acceleration of Fearless, even back then was a full 500 gravities. It makes me wonder how far behind the SLN did the RMN begin as far as compensator efficiency. They had to have surpassed them very quickly in the series. At any point, was their textev of an increase in SLN efficiency?

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

At the Pearls, thre is a chart of compensator efficiencies - in 1900 everyone has roughly the same compensator efficiencies. And 500 gravities falls right into the max speed for that ship, if not a little low.

Three has been no textev of SLN upgrades over 1900 baseline. I would expect an SLN DD to behave about the same as the Fearless did in OBS.

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

Something occurred to me. How do I ask this? Effectively, Honor was...chaste, up until Paul Tankersley?

And Edmond Marchant called her a whore, the 'Harlot of Satan'???

Honor was purer than Graysons! We know she knew nothing of baseball. I'm willing to bet that not only did any guy fail to get to first, second, or third base with Honor, but never even held a bat! She didn't even know how to apply makeup. And how old was she when she first made honey? Gees! :?

That is not correct. Honor dated people and even had sex before Tankersley. In fact, there is mention of someone she dated for a while in the Academy. That ended when she heard him making fun of her sexual prowess.

What? Huh? Where? Could you point me to that? I'd love to read it.

Thanks.

Found it. It's in Chapter 15 of The Short Victorious War. His name was Cal Panokulous. It's Honor's memories as she wakes up in Tankersley's cabin.

I am willing to hear other opinions, but I expect the Yildun System to have some uninvited vistors (led by a certain cigar-smoking Admiral) very early on in the next novel.

But yes, Technodyne is one of the largest military contractors, they have already shown themselves (in Monica) to be in bed with the MAlignment (even if they haven't a clue about said MAlignment) and from what little we know of Yildun, it is one of the places that the SLN could begin to develop and build the type of ships to even out the odds with the GA (someday).

So yeah, I expect them to go bye-bye....

IMHO as always. YMMV.

Actually, I have observed elsewhere that Technodyne and Yildun are probably pretty high up on one Aivars Terekhov's own personal Shit List, and he's surely looking forward to showing them just how...prominent they are. I'd like to see that.

Technodyne is almost certainly on a large number of Personal Shit Lists. Including, unfortunately for Technodyne, those of Augustus Khumalo, Estelle Matsuko, and Michelle Henke. And assuming the cigar-smoking Admiral comes along to play...

Like SWM said, its in tsvw.

The Short Victorious War wrote:The remembered sorrow and crushing shame of a long-ago afternoon poured through her. It had been an agonizing thing, the most deeply hidden secret of an often desperately unhappy adolescence, for she hadn't realized until it was too late why Nimitz had taken such a dislike to Cal Panokulous.
Not until she'd come smilingly, without knocking, into the dorm room of someone she thought loved her . . . and overheard the man who'd washed away the foulness of Young's touch chuckling over the com with an Academy classmate who knew them both over how "clumsy" she was.

Does it say anywhere what New York is like or if Beverly hills fell into the Pacific? Is the Ochre Gate bridge still standing? Does anyone need a bridge anymore? Did global warming raise the oceans 50 feet? is Elvis still being seen at whatever kind of service station fuels aircars?
