Safehold's R E Lee?

Could he be Green Valley? Both have similar aggressive styles and both ride a strong, spirited grey gelding. Lee's horse was Traveller(British Spelling) and Green valley's is Traveler.
Traveler is also the name of the father of the American Quarter Horse but he doesn't fit the description in the book.

Green Valley has taken to cribbing every good line and imitating every amusing quirk that all these military geniuses before him have had. It stands to reason that he does so intentionally because he is adopting their tactics and because he can get away with it shamelessly. Bare in mind that since Merlin's arrival, the cliche quotient has increased exponentially as well.

These deliberate similarities have been noted before, nor are they accidents, so keep your eyes peeled for more in the snippets to come, while the book's release is now less than 9 weeks away.

What further correspondence do you expect or want to see?

Let me echo Weird Harold's point, and add only amen.

While there are similarities, there are more differences; age, improved uniforms, increasing weapons' capabilities, the lack of the telegraph, etc; hopefully BGV won't end his career the way REL did.

Given all his many advantages, I don;t think BGV will.

I would say, a Safeholdian version of R. E. Lee should arise in the forces of the Vicariate, and the only candidate who comes to my mind at once would be Duke(?) Ahlvarez, the surviving Dohlaran commander. For 3 reasons: He is able, he is as loyal to the Temple as Lee was to the confederation, and he is on the side which will loose the war ...

True, but he won most of the battles, but he still lost the war. BGV has won all of his battles -- so far. I just hope he doesn't carry the "reincarnation of R. E. Lee" too far.

How was he a traitor? He served his sovereign state of Virginia from which he derived his citizenship both to the state and to the union. When his state withdrew from the union, he remained loyal to the state in which he was a citizen.
