I don't know if a topic about this has already been posted but couldn't EOC begin creating submarines?
Not diesel electric models mainly because no one wants to be ground zero of a meteor strike but something like the Ottoman submarine Abdül Hamid. It was an early steam powered submarine not a very effective designe but something that could be built on and improved upon and allow Charis to strike temple convoys and increase Clyntahns chance of blood pressure related problems :?:

i think subs will take a while but what about scuba diving, or something like those old diving suits. something that allow marines to get inclose and plant explosives.

Pretty sure someone would have to discover air pressure, then they can look into submarines. Look for something like the diving bell to make an appearence first, then the possibility for the submarines will come into play. The submarines would probably need to be bigger and better armed then earlier earth based versions too because of the sea predators native to safehold

Why would the Charisians want to introduce submarines? It seems to me that they wouldn't add significantly to the ICN's combat power - especially without any torpedoes - and if the Church manages to duplicate them (or steal some of the ones the Charisians built), they could pose a serious threat to the all-important Charisian merchant marine.

The problem is, that the submarines are more dangerous for Charis than for Church. The chances that Go4 or Thirsk would be able to build something like "Abdul Hamid" or "Fenian Ram" or "Toro" is pretty slim, but they exist. And even primitive submarines or semi-sumbersibles may seriously hamper the ICN ability to operate nera enemy coasts, especially at night.

I tend to agree militarily but submarines provide benefits for the great strategy of getting Safeholdian's thinking again. It's new, it's different and it's totally unexpected. The innovation involved is yet another chink the armor Langhorn installed over their thought processes.

Well, if the Thrisk & Co invented submarines for the Royal Dohlarian Navy, it would be interesting. ;) And usefull.

The problem is, the Charis have absolutely no need to introduse submarines, because this technology would be more effective AGAINST him. So in that particular point, the Charis would be the progress brake, and Safehold need someone else to do that.

The Empire could begin construction of PT boats that resemble the HMS Turbinia. That along with torpedoes would be a nasty surprise for CoGA warships.

Completely unnesesary - build the torpedo boats to fight galleons and manual-screw gunboats.

I was thinking further in the furture. PT boats are a big bang for the buck, and would start the development of turbines.
