Thrisk was married but his wife appears to have died already. IIRC the only family mentioned was that of his daughters and his daughters' husbands (possibly his grandchildren as well).

As the situation in Corisande has changed so drastically since this 892 the most prominent possibility wich comes to my mind is a Dohlaran. Maybe Thrisk like Alistar mentioned but someone else might also be possible.

Forgive me if I am wrong but isn't Thrisk already married? I seem to remember a passage about him having to get his family to safety with all the inquisitors about and him not doing such a splendid job stopping Charis at sea

I suppose if Zhanayt is actually 17 she may be an adult which could put her in the hot seat anyway. (Can anyone remember where RFC's post that talks about the age of majority is?)

Age of majority in most of Safehold is 18. It's 19 in Siddarmark, and 20 in the temple lands and Corisande.

My memory really isn't that good, unfortunately, but I've been re-reading the series and just read that in LAMA.

I do not think Silkiah will seek integration with Siddermark. Why would it? The Grand Duchy of Silkiah has an aristocratic form of government which can identify much more closely with Charis. The hereditary rulers of Silkiah will be looking to their future through dynastic lens.

The recent unpleasantness of their territories being used as a freeway by the Desnarian Empire will be foremost in their thoughts. They will seek alliances but blood is thicker then ink and words. A marriage alliance with Charis would enhance the security of the people of Silkiah. But that same alliance will bolster the prestige and security of the current ruling family in the FUTURE.

Would the Grand Duchy seek integration with the Charisian Empire? Probably not. But there may be incentives or factors which we are unaware of which will push the issue one way or the other.

THe problem we have with Silkiah is that we don't know if it was part of Siddarmark or part of Desnair in the 150 years of warfare. Were they under a republican form of govt or an arirtocratic govt? If the former, Union with Siddarmark is a no-brainer. If the latter, and, if Siddarmark does not object, some form of alliance/treaty with Charis makes a lot of sense.

As far as Zhanayt, IMHO Cayleb and Sharleyan (RFC) will not marry her off to a butthead. The lucky young man's religion might play a part here as well.

Exactly. I have been viewing Silkiah as somewhat comparable to Belgium in the WWI era. After all, they are a rather prosperous but small nation surrounded by more powerful nations. What has not been clear yet in the text is which side Silkiah prefers. Do they view Siddarmark in the same way WWI era Belgium regarded France? Or do they think of them the way WWI era Belgium viewed Germany?

Hi guys,

First, Silkiah was created nominally independent only in 869 YoG, less than 30, not 50 years ago; and secondly, yes evidently it was part of Desnar until the temple took it away from them to make the only kind of buffer that would save Desnar, since it continued not to learn from almost 200 years of fighting the republic.

Its excellent relations with Siddarmark and Charis before the SoS indicate a preference for trade triumphing over obedience to the temple, which couldn't be done without the grand duke closing his eyes to all of it, as in:

"Trade with Charis?"
"What trade with Charis?"
"I don't see any ships with Charisian flags, do you?"
"How can I arrest them if their Siddarmark papers are correct?"

So he may be popular enough to weather the liberation, and if he has a son of the appropriate brains etc, things might work out very well.

Of course if he's a twit he could always break his neck falling from his horse, even if Merlin, Cayleb, Sharleyan, or Nahrmahn and OWL, has to arrange it, so his more suitable younger brother can become the man of the hour. ;)

Regarding princess Zahnayt marrying Prince Nahrmahn Gareyt II [Nahrmahn III], it might be another excellent bond between Emerald and Charis, though in previous threads I've posted on General Koryn Gahrvai's suitability as well.

While she's the senior Ahrmahk at home when Cayleb and Sharleyan aren't [thanks for pointing that out], I expect her to visit Olivia, who as the oldest living inner circle royal can help train her as well as be a surrogate mother, for which Cayleb and Sharleyan might or ought to be eternally grateful, given trying to raise royal teenagers [Zahn] with no experience, as well as Queen Ahlanah on royal tours especially where Cayleb and Sharleyan can't visit yet.

L

I can't see Zhanayt being married off to Thrisk even if he ends up in charge of Dohlar (which I put in the likely category). He is just to old plus he has grandkids of his own. Maybe one of his grandsons who was in line for succession, but any kids the teenage Zhanayt married off to old man Thrisk would have wouldn't be pretty darn low in the succession. Even then I figure Dohlar is going to be in the anti-Charisan forces for the second war in the future, so I put a Dohlaran marriage as a low possibilty.

I could see a member of the Grand Duke of Silkiah's family, although we don't even know the Grand Dukes name much less his age or marital status.

Being married off to the Raven Lord's son, whats his name is an option. The Raven Lord's seem to be a defacto member of the Alliance as it is. Silkiah will probably wan't to be once it gets liberated from those stinking Desnairians.

I personally am rooting for General Gahrvi, mostly cause he is single, and an extremely likable character.

I would highly doubt anyone in

Sheesh, that poor girl with all of this advice as to whom Cayleb should marry her off to ... you'd think our fellow readers are marriage brokers and peerage hawkers!

If RFC knows any history  she is surrounded at court by the inescapable courtiers and aristocrat daughters and watched with eagle eyes by maiden aunt chaperones AND guards. Even then I hope that she is as strong as her heritage because there is an awful lot of mischief possible in such a hothouse environment.

Just think what a 'Regency-era' and/or Romance writer could do with this kind of environment! Is it time for RFC to put that hat on? He has conquered SF and Fantasy, is 'Bodice-ripping' a page too far?

Hi Issac Newton
Georgette is an apt comment.
Bur from observations in time as a graduate student in the USA during the 1980s, Georgette Heyer is probably not well known on the western side of the Atlantic.
