RFC posted that the Delivery was late for a planned summer 2015 release, that TOR is typically 12 months minimum (with a late August delivery to TOR that makes for a late August or early Sep release date.) TOR has not yet published a date picked up by Amazon or Barnes and Noble. It will come when TOR decides its time and I'm sure many eager readers/posters will gladly post here whenever they get a clue from their suppliers.

I don't remember us waiting that long from when the MWW posted that he'd turned in any of the other Safehold drafts till the release date... I could be wrong, but I thought it was typically more like 10 months.

I was assuming a May - June release since we're already getting snippets.

A year is nothing. Especially since DW does multiple series. So even if a Safehold book doesn't come out for another year, there will be SOMETHING new by DW. Back when the Wheel of Time series was still being written there was often a 2 or 3 year gap between books. And more lately, George RR Martin fans often have to wait 4 years or more for the next book.

Well, there have been far worse book disasters than 18 months or so between publishings. I was an avid fan of the "Earth’s Children®" series by Jean Auel and loved the 1st three books and greatly enjoyed the fourth one. However after the 12 year wait for the fifth and then 9 more years for the final sixth, that love had turned to ennui and I haven't even read the last. It is obvious that Ms Auel had lost the spark and incentive at the 4th book and while there is obvious effort, the last 2 come nowhere close to the satisfaction of their predecessors.

Obviously, there is no comparison between DW and Ms Auel other than both having successful book series, DW is a professional with an intent to maintain a successful  career while Ms Auel was a surprised amateur who did VERY WELL for 3 additional books. My biggest concern with SAFEHOLD is that I want to see the GBABA smeared but not with a co-writer brought in to flesh out an outline like the last Tom Clancy or Frank Herbert novels! Keep eating your celery and taking your vitamins RFC, my future reading happiness depends upon you! ;)

I remember the wait with Jean's books too. And your assessment of how it turned out is spot on.

Depends on one's age, no? It'd be very disappointing to die before Honor kills Detweiler.

I read the Safehold books as filler while waiting for the next Honorverse. I am not a great fan of Safehold (I am a fan of Weber) because there is just too much religion, good or bad, permeating the series. For me it is HBO-fodder.

I do not count the Timothy Zahn or other spinoff stuff as real Honorverse books--especially not comic books. They are a distraction.

So while there is a Safehold book already written and due out in some TORtime, there is absolutely nothing on a follow-up to Shadow of Freedom (March 2013) or even Cauldron of Ghosts (April 2014). This is disappointing because I am without a clue where Weber is going after Henke arrives at Mesa, or what will happen to the SL fleet being sent to Beowulf. And I am still annoyed that the Havenite ambassador to the SL never made an appearance--it would have changed a lot of perceptions. Lazy plotting?

I tend to like all of Weber's works, so I am generally happy with any new book. But I can see where the multiple series would be a problem if you are more into one series than the others. Unfortunately, I think your Honorverse wait is going to be a little longer. I think I remember RFC posting a while back that after turning in Hell's Foundation's Quiver, his next major project was going to be The Road to Hell (Multiverse book #3).

I kind of am doing that with George RR Martin. I read the first 3 books of the series, which were all out at the time, then got sidetracked with the long wait for the 4th book and never resumed the series. Having characters you like constantly get killed was kind of rough, but other than that I thought it was ok, so I probably will give it a 2nd go once he finishes the series. However, I was never as addicted to Martin as I am to Weber. I can make myself wait for the Song of Ice and Fire series to be complete before resuming it. I'm going to get the next Safehold, Honorverse, or Multiverse book as soon as I possibly can.
