Thanks Yow, for clearing that up. It is obvious now that she and I were confusing emergency power with backup power.

It seems that tapping into emergency power when there is so much system damage is an even higher risk.

Im not sure if Honerverse has back up power plants (cant see why it wouldnt) but it isnt normally tapped into. Unless certain sections get cut off then its damage controls job to run power and control lines as necessary. Thats not what was used here, I'm sure. Ships have backup deisels but it wont move the ship. Just ship sevices like electronics, lighting and ventalation. During most times like this the ship is dead in the water ( not moving).

But I don't think any non-fusion plants of any type have been described for warship, or other hyper capable ships.

Energy mounts (and I assume PDLCs) have some local capacitors so they can fire for a brief while after being cut off from the main ship power. But that's just a local energy buffer, not a real secondary power source...

Honor as an oxymoronic snotty nosed Ensign.
Lets be about it, Honor?

I think her mom consistently beats her at it. That's what I got from their conversation when one of their games was interrupted.

At least that's something. I don't remember reading of Honor playing chess, which I thought quite odd of such an unprecedented military leader. Can you recall which book?

If I'm not mistaken, the interruption was the arrival of her attorney.

Just checked. AoV chapter 20.

I new there was one that actually showed her playing. I didn't think it was that far back though. Wow. All i could remember was a mere mention in WoH. I didn't really want to throw it out there yet for cthia because i don't think he's read that far yet. :? But he sorta asked

Thanks to the both of ya.
No, I haven't read World's of Honor, yet. I have it. It's in my inbox so to speak. But anytime there is a glaring hole in my Honorverse star map, please feel free to fill it. That's how I found out about ART, a few of the conscientous forumites, and recently all of the anthologies. I have ordered over $300 worth of books. There's my niece and friends in Romania.

And again...thanx.
