"Helm, stand by to alter course one-three-five degrees to starboard, forty degree nose-down skew, and roll starboard on my command!"

Is this Honor's first tactical command and maneuver? Hot damn! I'm just a groupie for this kind of sh--

Just like Top Gun. Kinda hard to screw that movie up.

Get 'em Honor...baby Salamander!

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

"All weapons crews," that voice she could not quite recognize even now went on, carrying a calm and a confidence that stilled incipient panic like a magic wand, "stand by to engage as programmed. Transmitting manual firing commands now."

My name is Mander, Sally Mander! The beeotch is bad!!

You know, in consideration for the right person for the role. No one mentioned the soprano voice, and the easy going command style. Honor's soft spoken soprano voice is as much of her character as anything else. Perhaps RFC attributed too many super powers to one Honor Stephanie Harrington to be faithfully recreated on film.

A Manty. He'd attacked a Manty warship, committed the one unforgivable blunder no pirate or privateer was ever allowed to commit more than once.

How bad? Manty bad!

Rereading MoH. I like learning the history of expressions, cliches, and weird lil' words in our everyday language. Kinda like these; beating a dead horse, three sheets to the wind, any port in a storm, "cliche". That's why I enjoyed this next passage.
“She paused again, and Commodore Shulamit Onasis, the CO of Battlecruiser Division 106.2, frowned thoughtfully.
“I know that ’cat-in-the-celery-patch look, Ma’am,” she said after a moment. “Why do I sense there’s another shoe hanging in midair somewhere?”
“Well, I guess it might be because there is,” Michelle admitted cheerfully. She had everyone’s full attention again, she observed, and glanced at Cruiser Division 96.1’s commanding officer from the corner of one eye. “It seems that although somehow the newsies haven’t picked up on it yet, the reason our original reinforcing squadrons went somewhere else is that Duchess Harrington and Eighth Fleet have gone somewhere else, as well. To the Haven System, as a matter of fact.”

I like those kinds of phrases as well Yow. And RFC seems to be ripe with them. Where he pulls 'em I don't know, but he very well has a veritable inventory somewhere.

You just incited an awful memory. One I wish I could forget. The first time I was three sheets to the wind in college. Not my best moment. Or the two girls in the back seat I upchucked all over. Damn. I'm half Native American and no one in my family drinks because we can't!

Probably where I first really became aware of them. The military :P I swear, most of America's expressions ( I may be exaggerating a little bit) either came directly from the military or was brought to our shores by those jolly roving tars.

I pretty much quit drinking during my second tour. Numerous beers and three bottles of wine and a $50.00 rack of lamb from the Irish Village Pub in Dubai... I held out the longest among my peers before I gave up my plunder

“My God,” Captain (SG) Prescott Tremaine, CruDiv 96.1’s CO, murmured.”

Nice place to drink 'til you can't drink more!!!

However badly the People's Republic might have distracted the Manticoran government, the RMN's response to what had happened here was as certain as the energy death of the universe.
