Hi cthia,

Unless I am misinterpreting the story arc, the League is not going to be around to be manipulated by anyone very long.

Seriously RFC, I'm contemplating burning pages of your books and inhaling the smoke. I need a fix!

You just need to be able to navigate the labrynth of L-space where you can find every book that has ever or will ever exist, even the ones that won't be written.

Unfortunately, I've received a warning about possible infringement of the third law of the Time And Space Librarians, so I can't say much about the upcoming book.

But the twists are cool...

I can't write anywhere near as well as Weber
But I try nonetheless, And even do my own artwork.

Just remember, if you run in The Librarian in there do not, whatever you do, refer to him as a "monkey". You won't like you when he's angry.

A thought occurred to me from the renderings thread regarding missile pods. System defense pods, like the ones that tore Honor's command a new arse, could be mimicked by the pods deployed via ship. Is there a reason a ship couldn't overtly drop shoals of missile pods then move away from said position to activate at a much later strategic time? In effect, a ship, certainly an SD(P) could utilize pods as mines-on-steroids. Possible? Practical? Sensible?

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Do you mean covert instead of overt?

An Overt, ie visible, detectable, deployment of pods is asking for a salvo of missiles to soft-kill them, even if the salvo has to run ballistic for most of the distance.

As for being practical, System Defense missiles are bigger, smarter(?) and longer ranged than ship-board missiles of comparable dive technology. We've seen shipboard pods deployed as system defense pods several times, but usually not from an SD(P); the SD(P) (or BC(P)) can use them more flexibly and effectively by deploying them as needed. It's better to deploy pods from ammo-ships or mine-layers and leave the SD(P)s and BC(P)s their full war-load.

Oops. Indeed covert was what I meant, but I was thinking to say " as long as it wasn't done overtly, and hidden, by stacking ship wedges to hide." Thanks for correction. Reminds me of when I once incorrectly typed "stamp out literacy." Such are the symptoms of "hunt-n-peck" typing on a tablet. Your thoughts flow much faster than your fingers.

Anyways, I wasn't considering it for normal use, rather emergencies. As a tactic up one's sleeve. Betcha Sally could pull it off ...at least once. :D

She did. At Hancock Station in SVW. She used minelayers to pre-position the pods and then lead the Peeps right to them.

Really? Hotdamn, you mean I actually had a viable hardware idea? Not an original, but still. Break out the Old Tilman, I'm ready for the "New Manty Ships" thread. Finally!

Seriously, thanks KNick, that one totally tiptoed past me. I'll have a watchful eye out for it next reread.

Just completed my workout for the night. Exercise equipment, treadmill. I have to maintain my beautiful pose. Since I'm not married yet.

It got me to thinking. Heavy worlders probably have a harder time maintaining their physique, since their muscles are not just lacking a good workout, but are lacking their "normal" workload. It seems a heavy worlder would get absolutely no benefit from pushups, pullups done on a lower gravity world. Intuitively, it seems Honor's, and especially Anton Zilwicki's muscles would turn to flab without regular benefit of artificial grav and or exercise equipment. It would seem.

Actually, the mine-layers laid a minefield. The pods were towed into position for the first salvo before running and leading Adm Chin into the minefield.

Adm Gold Peak dumped a shoal of pods as a last shot from Agamemnon, which fits cthia's "last ditch" scenario fairly well.
