I like Alice Truman, but more for her last name. Alice is okay, but it evokes a wonderland.

I like Estelle Matsuko. It sounds powerful, and ripe with history, probably playing on some Freudian influence with my sensibilities and my respect for the Japanese culture.
And Estelle didn't disappoint. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

Aivars Aleksovitch Terekhov.
There is something rather majestic in three-word names that fit just right together (see John Chandler Simpson in the RoF series). And can't you just imagine what pictures that name paints in Sollie minds when they hear it over their comms. Aivars Aleksovitch Terekhov. Great name. ***********************************************

It gets even better with the "Sir". ![]()
Not quite - "Amandine" is a French diminutive of "Amanda". The association with almonds is a coincidence, as the French for almond is "amande". (Though I will admit that the association is a bit unfortunate - doesn't stop the name from hovering just outside the top 100 in France! ![]() ~*~

Good one Hutch, and, as Rose said, even better with Sir. I really like Helga Boltitz' character, but for me her name conjures up the evil daughter of Cinderella's even more evil stepmother. The wise man, attached to continued good health, will of course note "Rose" and "Heather".
The author really does a very nice job with names. We have not seen large numbers of names that really do appear to be distinguished SF authors in slight disguise, though Izek Amizov if it is ever used is not the disguise you might think: It is the late author's name as it appeared 40 years ago on the Lithuanian Pirate edition of "I, Robot". Edit: Fixed spieling of "if". Last edited by phillies on Tue Dec 23, 2014 5:07 pm, edited 1 time in total.

In India, a couple may have a girl and a boy,
and give them the names "Love" and Learning." "Prem" and "Vidya." "Learning" is the girl! A girl named "Love" (= Amy) will be Priya, or Preity. Don't confuse "Amanda" with "Priyanka" which means "favorite" whether she is worthy or not! H T Map-addict |

Solange Winton.
I cannot believe they called her the "poor little beggar maid." Her name rings of an African Queen. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. Note: Manticoran society gossip referred to Angelique Adcock (married King Roger III) as the "Poor Little Beggar Maid", per House of Steel. What Price Dreams does not refer to Queen Solange as the "poor little beggar maid." I think you may be mixing up Queen Consort Angelique with Queen Consort Solange, who married King Roger III and II, respectively. Both were from Gryphon in the Star Kingdom, Solange being born as a yeoman there, Angelique was an immigrant from the Maslow system who settled there. -------------------------------------------------------------
